Oxford 2012 - home of the University, punting on the Thames and Inspector Morse

History

Oxford was first occupied in Saxon times. Henry II granted it its Charter and the University started somewhere around the 12th Century. In the 20th Century, printing - the Oxford university Press, and Transoport - Morris Motors provided growth and prosperity to the Coty. In more recent times, as well as having fame through its university, it is also a popular Tourism destination.

Attractions

Oxford is a popular toursim destination with many of the Colleges opening to the public (for a charge). Many books and films were either set in, or filmed in Oxford - from Brideshead Revisited, to Inspector Morse to Harry Potter. Famous for its University and Ashmolean Museum amongst other attractions, it is a great place to visit, on foot at least.

Oxford has a strong anti-car regime and visitors are well advised to use the train or the comprehensive Park and Ride schemes. There has been a bit of a free-for-all with bus companies, resulting in them clogging up the main areas, but nowadays things should have eased off.
